So you can feed September 1 through December 31. "I was planning on going hunting but never made it out" This is good though right? Seems to me I remember someone saying MN should do that

Seems to me I remember someone saying MN should do that Current version of CWD science says prions can spread in urine. If that's true, the genie is damn sure out of the bottle over the entire country already.

I wonder how many of us either have on hand now or have handled CWD tainted urines we bought from good old Fleet Farm?

If a state is going to enact a feeding and/or baiting ban to fight CWD, then they sure as hell should be banning the use AND sale of urine/natural scents.
Either we're actually trying to fight the disease...or we're not.

Has anyone else heard that MO has banned the use of salt blocks and mineral piles? This week's Growingdeer TV segment had a lengthy spot on the CWD update down there. Dr. Woods took a mild approach to offering "tips" on how to help stop the spread. Despite his acknowledgement that CWD moves via urine, he stopped short of advising anyone to quit spreading foreign deer piss all over their property. It starts at about the 12:23 mark. www.growingdeer.tv/#/food-plots-predators-protection-and-possibilitiesHe also floated the idea of spreading granular trophy rock over a food plot as a way to get minerals to his deer. Sounds to me like he's flirting with disaster given that 94% of trophy rock is salt. He'd be better suited to go back and get a complete soil test and top dress some micros out there. I'm going to reach out to them and ask some pointed questions about this week's episode. *Have you heard about MN's threat that CWD meat is showing signs it could spread to humans? *Why haven't you advised people to quit spreading purchased deer urine as a preventative measure against CWD? *Aren't you concerned about people creating salty soil by spreading trophy rock on their plots?

***Correction, it looks like MO just expanded the number of counties where it's been banned. Not statewide yet.

Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but know I won't be spreading salt on any of my plots anytime soon

I wonder how many of us either have on hand now or have handled CWD tainted urines we bought from good old Fleet Farm? Hmmm. How about an MDDI sponsored event where folks turn in all their old deer urines? Then we could ask the DNR to test it all for CWD (not sure if CWD would be viable in old urine?). Could get allot of media attention on "deer farms" if this stunt was real. (?)
Anything make sense in testing the old deer scents??? Kinda like a good witch hunt?
I wonder what a CWD test would cost on a large scale? Art....do you know what is actually being tested??

I got a response already straight from Grant Woods himself:
Chris,
Good morning and thanks for watching!
I am familiar with the project you referenced and others. There always a chance humans could be infected with CWD or any other disease thought to be limited to other species.
However, there's overwhelming data that shows it's very unlikely CWD will cross the deer/human species barrier. Deer and elk in Colorado have been know to have CWD for five decades. The prevalence rate of CWD in deer and elk in north central Colorado is very high. Seventyfive percent of the tags there are purchased by residents and the state assumes most of the meat is consumed by residents.
Intensive medical studies have been completed in that area and there is no sign of CWD in humans. Now that CWD has been found in 24 states, two Canadian provinces, and South Korea thousands of humans are consuming CWD infected deer annually and to date there's been no diagnosis of the disease crossing the species barrier.
The same with mountain lions and other predator species that commonly consume deer infected with CWD.
I use synthetic scents for several reasons and they work great! At a recent conference I attended some disease specialist addressed the question of spreading CWD through urine. It seems there's conflicting opinions on that subject.
Currently there's way more that's not known about CWD than know. I'm pushing for agencies and hunters to unite and work for much better research and unified action against CWD.
Thanks for watching GrowingDeer and enjoy creation!

*********He sent a follow up email to address the salt in soil question*****************
Chris,
I forgot to address your question about salt buildup in soil.
Plants use small amounts of salt to regulate water movement. If applied correctly - just like fertilizer or any other soil amendment - the benefits will outweigh any concerns.
Enjoy creation,
