I saw an ad in the Litchfield paper where someone has a muncher, but it did not look as big as the one Batman had the video of. still an option, if someone needs a number. There are several munchers out there. One near Little Falls called "Mulching Mania". But those guys have tinker toys compared to the rig that will do my place. I may pay the owner of the mulcher to make two passes in my food plots - thus going a little deeper on the second pass. Talked with AL regarding the above second pass. Told him to ask the owner that if I were to pay for a set of replacement teeth ($900) would he go about 4" deep with the mulching head on the second pass - in my food plot areas only? They are going to talk about it. It would be worth it to me......to basically have it "tilled." I am uncertain if he will do this....but it don't cost to ask. I think he is going to mulch my land this week. Al came over today and we marked the shooting lanes and food plots with ribbon and paint. Ready to go!

Well.....now that the weather has "broke"......Enberg will be at my land to Mulch some food plots and shooting lanes tomorrow. Looking forward to getting this done before "green-up" as its easier to see what he is doing (avoid rocks and stay close to ground level - or below) and I can move forward with clean up and my (not-so) secret swamp project.
Big day for me......hope all works as planned. I will try to shoot a little video.

Please capture as much of it as you can. There's definitely a lot of opportunity to showcase what them things can do. Youtube isn't there yet.

So, today Rod mulched about 8 or 9 acres of stumps and slash. I figure I will have roughly 8 acres of core food plots, and another 3 acres or so in clover trails and mini plots at the end of the day.

Sadly......I don't know how to send video's from my upload files. I will keep trying. ^ The pic directly above is of the mulching machine destroying two piles of slash that have been on my land since I got it. The wood was somewhat "punky" and he destroyed the pile in just a few minutes. Poof....they are now gone.

I see some Norway pine stands in the background. Did you leave some on the periphery or interior?
I like the spruce in the background of one picture.
I have another buddy who has some used chain link fence. I doubt he will use it all. Just in case you are short.

Yep.....kept pine on most of the perimeters and around all the swamps and my building site......then kept a few small pockets of pines and kept the white pines......and I think it worked out pretty well. Also kept any oak and some birch and brush where possible. But these big machines do allot of damage to the understory.....and so there is lots of "collateral damage". I think two years will have this place looking pretty dang good. I kinda like it now.....but it is a bit more "open" than would be ideal. I believe it will hunt well this season. SD offered to load my videos......I got three to show here.....but took much more today. After a bit....it all looks the same tho. THANKS SD!! ....your the best!

I through a question/comment on facebook. What if you would just scatter some red clover and rye, then pack on some corners of it? Try it now, while we have moisture.
You would have some feed earlier than if you waited for lime and stick pick up. Or just go for rye.

That second pass looks pretty damn good. If it looks that good, I'd be tempted to seed some oats and clover and just pack all that stuff down and do throw and mow from there. Let the bugs eat the wood.

^ The soils look fair to "middling" now....but a few more years will help some of the mulch decompose. The owner of the logging company suggested that I add some nitrogen to the plots to speed the decomposition of the mulched soils. Everyone agrees that some rye or oats would grow in this soil. I do have some better plots adjoining in spots.....so I suppose I could grow some brassica in one area then rye in another. Also suggested was that pumpkins would grow extremely well in the mulch-bed he prepared. I dunno. Pumpkins take allot of work with keeping weeds down.....IME. I run short of time and energy to do lots of crop "baby sitting". I do like the weed suppression effects of rye or oats.
