Stu--There is a guy from Villard that can get container spruce for $4 each. Good size, nice trees, and easy to plant. We did 36 in less than an hour. I think he will have them again next year, where he gets them--not sure? Villard is probably 35-40 miles from you? Yes me too that's only 10 minutes from my house Lee Dont you live by Staples any more?

. How tall are your pines and how tall are the spruces? We’re the first in the ground about ten years ago? I have some pines pushing 10', most much smaller. Tallest spruces probably 6-7' or so, again most much smaller. Around here when they get to 6-7" they pop and take of 2-3" a year.

I forgot my niece gave my brother 100 christmas trees for christmas that'll be coming soon. I have no idea where they're going. I'm guessing they'll be showing up this week or next. What species are they?

Villard is a small town south of Alexandria, best known for 3 nice fishing lakes...Amelia, Villard, and Leven. It is part of the Minnewaska School District. Villard has a Bar, a Cenex, a bank, couple churches, and one good Manufacturing place known as Massmann Automation.
They have had some great athletes come out of there as well, one played for the Gophers, another just signed with the Gophers basketball team 6-11 kid...
Now you have your Villard useless facts for the day! LOL

This morning's 100 went in easier. I'll get some more stuff planted later today. One more day of planting bareroot stock and I should be done.

Yes it is. I look around when I'm planting trying to picture what it will hopefully look like in 10-15 years. At some point, this property is going to be "one of a kind" in the immediate area. I hope I'm around to see it.

What I wonder about most is if the trees and shrubs I'm releasing will ever actually change the composition of my place, or if it'll be a never ending maintenance project to keep the most natural of naturals at bay.

Tallest spruces probably 6-7' or so, again most much smaller. With decent moisture, those spruce will jump. Most of my spruce are beyond prime cover as they are 30 plus years old. I won’t take them out as I doubt I will be around to see any newly planted ones amount to much. The open canopy under mature spruce, still makes winter cover,
