Checked a few oak trees on different properties. Some of them are full of nice sized acorns and others have small aborted acorns.
A real mixed bag. What are you guys seeing?

Mine are small or none at all. Not a good year for acorns on my place.

I haven't looked that closely at many trees on my place. On my walks, I'm noticing some burr and pin oaks with good crops, but plenty of trees with nothing/very little.

The burr oak crop in SE MN is pretty decent. I haven't looked closely at many trees though, but the oaks in my yard and along my field edges are doing pretty well.

I just looked at some burrs along the west edge of one of my orchards. Some are loaded with normal sized acorns, some have none. It looks like at least some of the trees will produce a good crop around here.

I mowed an approach/access point east of my house a couple days ago. There's a couple burr oaks down there that are dropping acorns. On our way to town yesterday afternoon around 3:30 there was a doe and twin fawns eating acorns under those burrs. They just watched us drive past, less than 20 yards away.

I gathered some northern reds for SD today. They’re 60% of the normal size in last years. Not sure if they’ll all be that size or if these are early and the others will be larger. We had a dry spell in May but, have had rain every week since then.

Pope County plenty of acorns .. go one hour north to Parkers Prairie and you see very few ? Odd
The drought had to affect the acorn production in Otter Tail County!

Happy to report that 5 of the 9 burr oaks I planted have at least one acorn on them. These were probably 12 year old trees when I planted them so probably 20 yo give or take. I have no kown oaks with in miles so this is very exciting. Hazelnuts are also loaded so my deer better figure out what a nut is.
