Happy to report that 5 of the 9 burr oaks I planted have at least one acorn on them. These were probably 12 year old trees when I planted them so probably 20 yo give or take. I have no kown oaks with in miles so this is very exciting. Hazelnuts are also loaded so my deer better figure out what a nut is. You've got hazelnuts that haven't been eaten? Your critters must not know what they are yet. Hazels here were loaded a few weeks ago. Now, finding a nut or two is pretty much impossible.

They are just starting to brown. I don't have Grey squirrels, I guess they would be biggest consumers. I will check them this weekend. Last year they were all gone from one weekend to the next.

My brother and I hiked in to the state forest and national forest today and hung to ladder stands. Tons of acorns everywhere. These are northern reds and will provide food for the big woods deer through next spring.

Had a doe last night @ 20 yds chomping acorns for at least 5 minutes. Looked like combo of Bur & Red Oak acorns.

The red/pin ?? oaks in my yard are about done dropping. Average year for them. The swamp white/english ?? oaks a mile away at the local big grocery store are looking to be just now ripe and about to drop. They had looked pretty small early in the year, look good now. (West side of Shitties)

I went to check out my local source for white oak acorns and the ground was covered. I’ve never seen so many. I’ll head back there Sunday and get several pounds worth. They’d mowed in there and the nuts are easy pickings. Unfortunately I was headed to my camp and didn’t have bags or a container.

Found a mixed bag while in Missouri. I have no idea how many oak varieties? Quite a few! Still a lot of acorns on the ground.

There’s a ton of northern red acorns on the ground again here in NH. From what I hear the deer have a healthy layer of fat on them.

The deer were still hitting acorns in early November in Iowa & Missouri. In Missouri the bottom fields are soaked and there will probably be crop standing until a major freeze.
No shortage of food !

Did a little acorn check. Seems to be a decent year. I saw quite a few up north near Outing (N Minnesota) pin, red, Bur. Some trees were full.

I partridge hunted up there a bit and deer numbers seemed to drop off north of Emily. I am not sure if the cwd hunts have changed things.

We saw quite a few deer on the way up there--a lot of by Camp Ripley. We also saw 3 nice does on a walk by Roosevelt Lake.
