All over the golf course today......even had wheel slippage on a hill covered with acorns. Deer were everywhere on the course scarffing up the acorns. It's that time. Also saw some nice plumbs dropping at the course today.......may need to go back for a few to make some jelly. .

My son and I swept up my parents driveway on Saturday and collected 15+ gallons of acorns. The acorns we picked up were fed to our pigs and they seemed to think that was a pretty good snack.

Bur oaks dropping like mad at home. Red oaks, nothing falling.
Deer are crunching in the woods around the house right now.

From what I've seen, many of the burr oaks must have aborted their acorns. Some pin oaks have decent crops. I haven't seen much on any red oaks yet.

Every red I see is loaded around here. Some of my white oaks I planted in '06 or '07 have some small acorns on them as well.

I stopped out to put up a camera last evening and the oaks were dropping acorns like crazy ? Bur oaks. Good year in my area I think.

The neighbor and I have been trying to pay attention to acorn production the last couple weeks. Pin oaks appear to be loaded, and the acorns seem to be larger than normal...which strikes me really odd in a drought year. The burr oaks that do have acorns are loaded, but the acorns seem to be smaller than normal which I would expect in a drought year. Neither of us have that many red oaks, but those that we do have don't seem to have many acorns.

I' walked my new property with the forester the other day. I saw lot of medium sized red oak acorns on the ground already. I wasn't expecting any. If you'd seen the frozen dead leaves of the oaks here this spring after that late May killer frost there was no way there'd be acorns. The only thing I can think of is maybe because my land is north facing possibly the trees were a little behind and the new growth wasn't there yet before the freeze???
If there's still acorns left for November that'll be a hot spot for the area. I'll need to bring binoculars to check out the tops.

The 2 oaks on the picture are closer to 17-20 years old . Bur oaks planted by a drainage creek . I didn’t have all that many survivors in that particular area. But those two survived and started producing acorns at around 12 if I remember correctly.
