My first handful of years was sitting on the ground.first stands we had were when I was 15ish. Yea i started hunting at 10. A bit early, but I was just a kid and did what I was told. That carving is very cool Art.

Sarcasm but it is roughly Oct 15th to Dec 5th. Just enough to make sure 90% of the yearling bucks are killed. Goddang..... I hate our 9 day season where we are. wow. We used to have an A and B season..... You had to choose first weekend or second weekend. SOOOO MUCH LESS PRESSURE ON DEER! The A & B season was genius and should come back . Hunters had better access back then . One group would hunt first weekend, another group the second . I know that is wishful thinking !! Move the season back one week and then break it into two weekends and we’d have much better hunting and the hunting community would have more access to private land and public land !!

My wife’s niece had an interesting perception. Her little brother shot a doe and fawn during the youth/ early antlerless season. She said all of the deer were scared away when she hunted the regular season.
She is only a junior in high school.
I wonder if the state has considered the decrease in bow harvest after these early rifle seasons.

8 deer seen today. No shots. Got about 4" of snow still on the ground here that was almost slush today. Will be interesting to see what that becomes with colder temps.

The early dawn walk to the bathroom revealed there would be no quiet walking this morning. Taking refuge in a ladderstand over a natural bait station (storm blown trees.)

#luxerystand I remember the days when that was a significant change in the way we hunted. My Dad said that deer just don’t look up.., 6 feet or less in those times.

Got my first SD deer today. I have a few does that bed in the grove behind the house. The wind was right and weather perfect for a hunt. I had a good idea where they’d be bedded so I just walked out to the road and still hunted from the downwind side. I took two hours to go 100 yards. When I got near the bedding zone I just leaned against a tree and waited. The first one that stood up to stretch her legs got shot. It was a frontal shot from maybe 25 yards. I had an antlerless only muzzleloader tag. X Mark’s the spot. I just moseyed in from the road to the east.

Very cool! Did u rifle hunt anywhere this year. I remember u mentioned you were i think. I bumbled around in the woods at a farm on the MN side of the border during gun season. It’s a shotgun zone. I went twice, saw zero deer.
