That looks great. Did you plant that yourself or do you rent out the field to someone? That should be quite the draw this fall. My neighbor planted it and will be getting a share off of it.

Will your neighbor cut and bale it then and you split the hay with you or how does that work?

Will your neighbor cut and bale it then and you split the hay with you or how does that work? Yep, exactly. He'll cut and bale it, and we'll split it 50/50.

That sounds like a decent deal for both of you and I'm interested to see how it works out. I know alfalfa can use up quite a bit of fertilizer, but at least around here quality hay seems to be worth quite a bit so you should do pretty well.

I terminated about 1/2 of my clover via Roundup / 24-d a few days ago.....and today I drilled some seed into the other 1/2 of my clover plots. Some of it was burned up from the drought....while other areas was lush and green. I had some rye that was as high as 6 feet in a few areas. What I panted was some left-over seeds and a few that I want to add into my "rotation" if they work out. I planted a mix of chicory, crimson clover, GH Radish, Soybeans, Sunflowers, Sorghum Sudan Grass, Egyptian Wheat. Some of this was just to get some vertical cover from seeds I had. Working with a new drill.....and I stubbled to get enough seed in the ground. It's not a huge deal.....but it was a bit disappointing as I learned how to set up the new drill. The last pic shows how I mount my step ladder to my drill.....because I cannot get onto the walk boards via the furnished drill step......lol. Getting old aint easy! Grin. Notice my "lets go Brandon" bumper sticker on the roof of my cab? .

With every week that goes by with no rain, I'm contemplating going to just fall plots instead of spending the money to plant beans. Just can't see myself spending 60+ bucks for a bag of beans and then watching them not grow good due to no rain.

They are going to need to burrow down pretty far to find moisture unless we get some good rains in July. I dug a fish pile hole 3 ft deep this weekend and it was concrete all the way down.

While I did place my order for brassicas and Fixation Balansa today I don't think I'm going to waste the seed or the time unless the weather pattern changes dramatically. Even at that I likely will only plant a portion of my now clover plots into Brassicas in case they don't take.

I got pails of seed ready to go into my drill......but will wait for better opportunity.

My neighbor says herbicide carryover usually runs up to about 60 days, just enough to hope for canopy closure on the corn. My outback plot won’t need much, but upfront had very poor germination with some just emerging.
I have some turnips and radishes on hand and need to get a bucket of rye.
